A Review On In Five Years by Rebecca Serle

In Five Years is an adult romance that deals with friendship, love, long-term relationships, and health. One thing I must say about reading the blurb or synopsis is that it is completely misleading. I expected to read what was given in the blurb however was given something completely different. While that was not a bad thing, I was expecting it.

Where do you see yourself in five years?

When Type-A Manhattan lawyer Dannie Cohan is asked this question at the most important interview of her career, she has a meticulously crafted answer at the ready. Later, after nailing her interview and accepting her boyfriend’s marriage proposal, Dannie goes to sleep knowing she is right on track to achieve her five-year plan.

But when she wakes up, she’s suddenly in a different apartment, with a different ring on her finger, and beside a very different man. The television news is on in the background, and she can just make out the scrolling date. It’s the same night—December 15—but 2025, five years in the future.

After a very intense, shocking hour, Dannie wakes again, at the brink of midnight, back in 2020. She can’t shake what has happened. It certainly felt much more than merely a dream, but she isn’t the kind of person who believes in visions. That nonsense is only charming coming from free-spirited types, like her lifelong best friend, Bella. Determined to ignore the odd experience, she files it away in the back of her mind.

That is, until four-and-a-half years later, when by chance Dannie meets the very same man from her long-ago vision.

Rating: 3.5 out of 5.

In Five Years is an adult romance that deals with friendship, love, long-term relationships, and health. One thing I must say about reading the blurb or synopsis is that it is completely misleading. I expected to read what was given in the blurb however was given something completely different. While that was not a bad thing, I was expecting it.

I gave this a 3.5 star rating because there were some aspects to the story that I was anticipating to read yet was not given. I was not a huge fan of the main character and was mainly rather bored with our main character, Dannie. While it did mention that she was Type A serious and very work oriented and plan oriented, I did not expect her attitude throughout the book to be the way it was and just was not expecting her to be the way she was. While I didn’t like her as much, I did like her friendship with her best friend Bella and enjoyed that they were close. It was nice to see that their friendship wasn’t always positive and always on the upside because friendship definitely has its downs so it was nice to see the different situations they had to both fight fore.

I liked that this wasn’t completely on the romance side even though I was expecting it to be an adult romance and how even though the blurb was about Dannie meeting the man that she dreamed of, it wasn’t what she was expecting. I did wish that the blurb was truthful because I was definitely expecting a romance. In the beginning and in the blurb she had been with another man for a few years and I’m glad that even though the blurb hinted at cheating, we were fortunately not given a main character that cheated which was good.

While I was expecting something entirely different, I’m glad that I got to read this as this wasn’t a topic I was used to reading in terms of health issues.
