Finlay Donovan is killing it…except, she’s really not. A stressed-out single mom of two and struggling novelist, Finlay’s life is in chaos: The new book she promised her literary agent isn’t written; her ex-husband fired the nanny without telling her; and this morning she had to send her four-year-old to school with hair duct-taped to her head after an incident with scissors.

When Finlay is overheard discussing the plot of her new suspense novel with her agent over lunch, she’s mistaken for a contract killer and inadvertently accepts an offer to dispose of a problem husband in order to make ends meet. She soon discovers that crime in real life is a lot more difficult than its fictional counterpart, as she becomes tangled in a real-life murder investigation.

I gave Finlay Donavan Is Killing It 4 stars, really enjoying the amusing and hilarious writing that made me read this whole book in one night. It was so cute to read and wow did this have me at the edge of my seat (figuratively because I was lying down on my bed reading this). The tiny hint of romance between Detective Nick Anthony and Finlay? Oh man was I rooting for them. I loved the fact that there was a lot of support from Detective Nick, and they were both extremely cute together. When he would catch Finlay in an act, he was simply hilarious. Although romance was not the main storyline of the story, I did appreciate the little hints in the book and I’m excited to read book 2 and what happens in Finlay’s life.

I also did not love her kids at all but at the same time, wow they were adorably annoying. My heart clenched whenever Finlay’s daughter, Delia, kept saying “Dad would know what to do” and I felt so bad for Finlay because children simply don’t know how hard mothers work to make things happy at home. But Delia had her moments and she was just so cute. Delia definitely had her moments throughout the book that I enjoyed. Unfortunately Zach was too young so he didn’t have his moments.

All in all, I’m really excited to hop back into Finlay Donavan’s world and I’m so excited to see what she does as a hired assassin even though she’s very much not an assassin. This book was so fun to read and I highly recommend it.
