What would you do if you turned on the faucet one day and nothing happened? What if you learned the water in your home was harmful to drink? Water is essential for life on this planet, but not every community has the safe, clean water it needs. In When the World Runs Dry, award-winning science writer Nancy Castaldo takes readers from Flint, Michigan, and Newark, New Jersey, to Iran and Cape Town, South Africa, to explore the various ways in which water around the world is in danger, why we must act now, and why you’re never too young to make a difference.

Topics include: Lead and water infrastructure problems, pollution, fracking contamination, harmful algal blooms, water supply issues, rising sea levels, and potential solutions.

When the World Runs Dry gives us the facts and information that shows us how much the world is in need of better health and recovery. The way Nancy F. Castaldo helps me understand that there is much more struggle in the world and in various communities than meets the eye.

I gave When the World Runs Dry five stars, really enjoying and learning so much from this book. I was able to highlight so much and take notes on the fact that I felt embarrassed that there was so much going on in the world that I never noticed in the past. I used to want to be a marine biologist and study about the environment (although a lot has changed) but, even then, I never knew things. What’s great about When the World Runs Dry is that it teaches us about water shortage, climate change, different places around the world that face water shortages like Africa, even in the US, and many more.

What I liked about learning through this book is ways that we can help and even start saving water and how we can slowly save the environment. I feel that this book really shows us what we don’t know and how bad the water situation is for some towns, cities, and countries.

I feel ashamed that I never truly knew about some of these situations and I’m so glad that I was able to receive and ARC for When the World Runs Dry. This has helped me understand so much.

Thank you Algonquin for inviting me to read When the World Runs Dry and for a physical ARC. I hope you guys all grab your own copy!
